India Hold Nerve to Beat South Africa by 30 Runs, Extend Series-Winning Streak
India showcased their depth and composure to defeat South Africa by 30 runs in a high-scoring T20I, extending their series-winning streak to an impressive ten. Defending a challenging total of 231 for 5, India survived a serious scare before a decisive late bowling surge sealed the contest.
South Africa’s chase was powered early by Quinton de Kock and Dewald Brevis, who dominated the powerplay to race to 118 for 1 in just 10 overs under heavy dew. The pair looked set to overhaul the target with ease, but a timely ball change to a drier one triggered a dramatic collapse. India struck four wickets for just 15 runs, swinging the momentum firmly back in their favour.
Jasprit Bumrah proved the difference between the sides, delivering a masterclass in death bowling. His figures of 4-0-17-2 came on a night when 432 runs were scored, underlining his impact. Varun Chakravarthy also played a crucial role, finishing with 4 for 53, including key middle-order breakthroughs.
Earlier, India’s innings was transformed by Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma after a brisk start from Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, who added 63 in 5.3 overs. With the run rate threatening to dip, Hardik launched a stunning counterattack, bringing up the second-fastest T20I fifty by an Indian. He smashed 63 off just 25 balls, while Tilak anchored the innings with a fluent 73 off 42. The pair added 105 runs in just 7.2 overs, pushing India to a formidable total.
Despite late fireworks from Marco Jansen, who struck successive sixes to briefly revive South Africa’s hopes, Bumrah returned to dismiss him and shut the door on the chase.
India’s ability to defend a big total in challenging conditions once again highlighted their balance and big-match temperament, capping off another authoritative series victory.
