Rohit Sharma Named in Mumbai Squad for First Two Vijay Hazare Trophy Matches; Shardul Thakur to Lead
Mumbai have named Rohit Sharma in their squad for the opening two matches of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, with all-rounder Shardul Thakur set to captain the side. The 17-member squad blends experience with several new faces as Mumbai begin their campaign in Group C.
Apart from Rohit, the squad features established domestic performers Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan and young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi. However, notable absentees include Ajinkya Rahane, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ayush Mhatre, who were not selected for the initial phase of the tournament.
Mumbai’s selectors have also handed opportunities to a few lesser-known players. Chinmay Sutar, who previously represented India Emerging in four List A matches in 2019, has earned a recall. Fellow batter Ishan Mulchandani has also been included, along with fast bowler Onkar Tarmale, who recently caught attention after being picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL auction.
Among the familiar names in the squad are seasoned campaigner Siddhesh Lad, wicketkeepers Hardik Tamore and Akash Anand, and spin all-rounders Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian. The pace attack will be bolstered by Tushar Deshpande, alongside Sylvester D'Souza and Sairaj Patil.
Mumbai will open their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign against Sikkim in Jaipur on December 24, followed by a clash against Uttarakhand two days later.
