Suryavanshi Scripts History With Record-Breaking List A Knock

Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his meteoric rise in Indian cricket by becoming the youngest centurion in men’s List A history, achieving the feat at just 14 years and 272 days during the opening day of the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Representing Bihar in a Plate League match against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi, Suryavanshi reached his maiden senior List A century off just 36 balls—his first hundred outside the T20 format. He went on to shatter more records, bringing up the fastest 150 in men’s List A cricket off 59 deliveries. The teenage prodigy was eventually dismissed for a sensational 190 off 84 balls, an innings studded with 16 fours and 15 sixes.

This was only Suryavanshi’s seventh List A appearance, having made his debut against Madhya Pradesh in December 2024. The knock further underlined what has been a breakthrough year for the Bihar batter.

Suryavanshi is widely tipped to be part of India’s Under-19 World Cup squad for the tournament to be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia in January–February 2026. Earlier this month, he smashed 171 off 95 balls at the Under-19 Asia Cup in the UAE, falling just six runs short of Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing Indian record of 177 in youth one-day internationals.

Across 15 youth ODIs, Suryavanshi averages 51.13, with two centuries and three half-centuries, while striking at an extraordinary rate of 158.79.

His exploits have not been limited to one format. In Doha last month, he struck a 42-ball 144 against UAE at the Rising Stars Asia Cup, reaching his century in just 32 balls—making it the joint-sixth fastest hundred in men’s T20 cricket. Soon after, he became the youngest centurion in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history with an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls against Maharashtra in Kolkata.

Suryavanshi’s rise to prominence began earlier in 2025 when he became the youngest player to be picked at an IPL auction at the age of 13. He later created headlines by becoming the youngest batter to score an IPL century, blasting 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans. In seven matches during IPL 2025, he scored 252 runs at a staggering strike rate of 206.55.

Since the IPL, the young batter has continued his prolific run in youth cricket, scoring centuries against England and Australia. The England tour proved particularly fruitful, with Suryavanshi amassing 355 runs at a strike rate of 174.01.

Suryavanshi is expected to feature in only the initial matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy before joining India Under-19’s conditioning camp in Bengaluru ahead of their departure for the World Cup, which begins on January 15.
