Shorey equals record for most consecutive List A centuries

Vidarbha batter Dhruv Shorey etched his name into the record books on Thursday, equalling N Jagadeesan’s record for the most consecutive centuries in List A cricket with a sparkling unbeaten 109 against Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Rajkot.

Shorey’s knock, his fifth successive hundred in the format, came off just 77 balls and featured nine fours and six sixes. Batting at No. 3, he capitalised on a strong platform laid by openers Aman Mokhade and Yash Rathod, who put on 148 for the first wicket, as Vidarbha amassed an imposing 365 for 5 after being sent in to bat.

The innings marked Shorey’s eighth List A century and extended a remarkable run of form that began during the knockout stages of the 2024–25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In that tournament, Shorey struck centuries in the quarter-final, semi-final and final, playing a key role in Vidarbha’s run to the title clash alongside Karun Nair.

Across eight innings in the competition, Shorey has scored 494 runs at an average of 70.47 and a strike rate of 92.68, finishing as Vidarbha’s second-highest run-getter and fifth overall. His current streak also includes a season-opening 136 off 125 balls, although that effort came in a losing cause as Bengal chased down 383 to win by three wickets.

Shorey now shares the record with Tamil Nadu’s N Jagadeesan, who achieved the feat during the 2022–23 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Jagadeesan’s sequence included a record-breaking 277 against Arunachal Pradesh, the highest individual score in List A cricket.

Just behind them are Karun Nair, Devdutt Padikkal, Kumar Sangakkara and Alviro Petersen, each with four consecutive List A hundreds. Among them, Sangakkara stands out as the only player to have scored all four centuries at the international level.
