De Kock, Breetzke and Milne Power Sunrisers Eastern Cape to Bonus-Point Win

Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) produced a dominant all-round performance to register a 48-run bonus-point victory over Pretoria Capitals (PC), with Quinton de Kock, Matthew Breetzke and Adam Milne playing starring roles.

SEC were put on course for a big total by half-centuries from de Kock and Breetzke. De Kock led the charge with a fluent 77 off 47 balls, striking four sixes during an aggressive powerplay that saw SEC race to 64 without loss in the first six overs. One lofted drive over mid-off off Lungi Ngidi stood out for its elegance as de Kock reached his fifty from just 29 deliveries.

Breetzke played the perfect supporting role, initially anchoring the innings before accelerating sharply. After moving from 25 off 20 balls, he added 27 runs in his next 13 deliveries to bring up his half-century in 30 balls. When de Kock was stumped in the 14th over, SEC looked set for a 200-plus total.

However, Pretoria Capitals fought back well at the death. Tymal Mills and Ngidi used slower balls effectively, conceding just 20 runs in the final three overs. Despite a brisk cameo from Jordan Hermann, who struck 37 off 20 balls, SEC finished on a competitive but slightly underwhelming 188.

Pretoria Capitals began their chase brightly. Jonny Bairstow fell early to Ngidi, but Shai Hope counterattacked with a rapid 36 off 18 balls, punishing the SEC attack during the powerplay. At 49 for 1 after five overs, PC were firmly in the contest.

The momentum shifted dramatically when Adam Milne struck with a well-disguised slower yorker to bowl Hope. Milne continued to wreak havoc, finishing with outstanding figures of 4 for 25. Will Smeed kept PC in the hunt, but the chase unravelled after Senuran Muthusamy dismissed him with a superb delivery that drifted in, dipped and turned to clip the stumps.

From needing 92 off 58 balls with seven wickets in hand, PC collapsed to lose three wickets for 14 runs. Milne added further strikes, including the key wickets of Keshav Maharaj and Sherfane Rutherford, while a run-out compounded PC’s troubles.

Rutherford’s 25 off 19 balls proved too little, too late, as the Capitals were eventually bowled out well short of the target. SEC’s 48-run win sealed a bonus point and underlined their strength with both bat and ball.
