Devine Claims Purple Cap After Match-Winning Four-For as WPL 2026 Heats Up
Gujarat Giants’ star allrounder Sophie Devine surged to the top of the Purple Cap standings in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 following a decisive four-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals in Vadodara.
Devine returned figures of 4 for 37 in a tightly contested match that Gujarat Giants won by three runs, earning her the Player-of-the-Match award. The performance took her wicket tally to 15 for the season, pushing her past Delhi Capitals’ Nandani Sharma, who slipped to second place with 14 wickets despite a tidy spell of 1 for 26 in the same match.
The four-for marked Devine’s second haul of three or more wickets this season, underlining her remarkable consistency. She has picked up at least one wicket in every match she has played so far. Nandani shares that distinction and still boasts one of the standout performances of the tournament — a 5 for 33 earlier in the season, one of only two five-wicket hauls in WPL 2026. The other belongs to Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Shreyanka Patil.
Close behind the leading pair in the Purple Cap race are Mumbai Indians’ Amelia Kerr and Delhi Capitals’ N Shree Charani, both with 12 wickets. Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Lauren Bell and Nadine de Klerk have claimed 11 wickets each, while Patil rounds out the top group with ten.
Meanwhile, the Orange Cap leaderboard is currently dominated by Mumbai Indians batters. Nat Sciver-Brunt, last season’s Orange Cap winner, moved to the top of the run charts after scoring the first century of the season — an unbeaten 100 off 57 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. She now leads the tally with 319 runs and is the only player to cross the 300-run mark this season.
Sciver-Brunt is followed by MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who has amassed 260 runs. UP Warriorz’s Phoebe Litchfield sits third with 243 runs, ahead of RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana on 236 and Delhi Capitals’ Lizelle Lee on 230.
With both the Purple and Orange Cap races tightening, the WPL 2026 continues to deliver high-quality performances and fierce competition as the league phase progresses.
