Amy Jones Replaces Injured Phoebe Litchfield at UP Warriorz for Remainder of WPL 2026
UP Warriorz have signed England wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones as a replacement for Phoebe Litchfield, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 due to a quad injury.
Litchfield, UP Warriorz’s leading run-scorer this season, has returned to Australia to undergo rehabilitation ahead of the upcoming Australia–India series, which begins on February 15, a Cricket Australia spokesperson confirmed. She featured in all six matches for UPW in this year’s tournament and finished as the third-highest run-getter overall, amassing 243 runs.
Jones, who went unsold at the WPL auction, has been signed at her base price of INR 50 lakh. The 31-year-old brings significant international experience, having represented England in 125 T20 Internationals and 111 One-Day Internationals, in addition to extensive exposure in domestic T20 leagues such as the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and the Hundred.
In the 2025–26 WBBL season, Jones was Melbourne Stars’ second-highest run-scorer, accumulating 234 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 125.80. The Stars reached the Knockout stage before losing to Perth Scorchers, with that match in early December 2025 marking Jones’ most recent competitive appearance.
UP Warriorz were last in action on January 22, when they suffered a 45-run defeat to Gujarat Giants. The loss left them at the bottom of the points table with the weakest net run rate among the five teams.
With two league matches remaining, UPW must win both fixtures and significantly improve their net run rate to secure a place in the playoffs. They face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday before concluding their league campaign against Delhi Capitals on February 1.
