Pakistan Crush Australia by 90 Runs to Seal T20I Series

Pakistan produced a near-perfect performance to hammer Australia by 90 runs in the second T20I, bowling them out for 108 in 15.4 overs and sealing the series with a match to spare. The defeat is Australia’s heaviest in T20 Internationals since 2005, their second-biggest overall, and Pakistan’s largest-ever victory over Australia in the format.

Despite fielding a stronger XI than in the series opener, Australia were outplayed in all departments as Pakistan surged to 198 for 5 before dismantling the chase with ruthless efficiency.

Salman Agha Leads Pakistan’s Charge

A resurgent Salman Agha was the standout performer, smashing a career-best 76 off just 40 balls to anchor Pakistan’s imposing total. Usman Khan also registered his highest T20I score, contributing a fluent 53 off 36 deliveries as Pakistan powered their way to within touching distance of 200.

Much like the first match, Agha and Saim Ayub tore into the Australian bowling during the powerplay, adding 55 runs in just 25 balls. Pakistan raced to 72 runs in the first six overs, their third-highest T20I powerplay total.

Adam Zampa briefly checked the momentum, dismissing Babar Azam cheaply for the second consecutive match, but Australia were unable to apply sustained pressure. Xavier Bartlett endured a torrid outing, conceding 52 runs in his four overs, including 14 in the final over, as Pakistan closed strongly.

Agha’s innings underlined his growing confidence at No. 3 ahead of the T20 World Cup. After showcasing his power-hitting in a rain-shortened match earlier in the month, he carried that intent forward here—charging down the track first ball for four, punishing Matthew Kuhnemann during the powerplay, and continuing his assault even after the field spread. He eventually fell attempting a reverse sweep, but not before stamping his authority on the contest.

Spinners Rip Through Australia

Australia’s chase was always a tall order, particularly after falling well short in their pursuit in the previous match. While Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis brought experience and pedigree, Pakistan’s spinners proved decisive in conditions that suited them perfectly.

Abrar Ahmed was introduced as early as the third over and immediately showcased his full repertoire. After weathering a six from Marsh, he struck with a skidding delivery that trapped the Australian captain lbw. He returned two overs later to remove Inglis with a superb wrong’un, leaving Australia reeling at 29 for 3 by the fifth over.

Shadab Khan and Abrar combined to take six wickets, repeatedly breaking partnerships before they could develop. Australia’s highest stand was just 24 runs, highlighting their inability to gain any foothold in the chase.

Cameron Green briefly threatened resistance, scoring 35 and attacking Saim Ayub with two sixes and a four at the end of the powerplay, but the flicker of hope was swiftly extinguished. Pakistan continued to apply pressure, and Australia were eventually bundled out for 108.

The comprehensive victory underlined Pakistan’s dominance in the series and sent a strong message ahead of the T20 World Cup, while Australia were left searching for answers after a bruising defeat.
