De Leede’s All-Round Brilliance Powers Netherlands to Thumping Win Over Namibia

Bas de Leede produced a match-winning all-round performance as the Netherlands registered a comprehensive victory over Namibia, getting their campaign back on track after the heartbreak of their previous defeat against Pakistan.

Asked to bat first, Namibia posted a modest 156 for 8, despite several batters getting starts without converting them into substantial scores. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton top-scored with 42, but Namibia never quite managed to seize control of the innings.

The Netherlands bowlers kept the pressure on throughout, preventing Namibia from building momentum. De Leede made immediate impact in two crucial spells, striking both times to provide key breakthroughs for captain Scott Edwards. He dismissed Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus just as he began to find his range, before removing JJ Smit when the all-rounder was starting to look dangerous.

Earlier, Timm van Beek halted a promising second-wicket stand by dismissing Jan Frylinck with a clever cutter, while Namibia’s late-innings hopes were further dented by Ruben Trumpelmann’s unnecessary run-out in the 19th over, moments after he had cleared the boundary.

Loftie-Eaton played the anchor role, reaching 25 off 27 balls by the halfway mark before briefly accelerating with a six and a four off Colin Ackermann. However, his dismissal in the 15th over curtailed any chance of a late surge, leaving Namibia short of a competitive total.

In reply, the Netherlands made a flying start, led by opener Michael Levitt. He struck a six in the opening over and continued the assault despite the early loss of Max O’Dowd, punishing Bernard Scholtz and JJ Smit to dominate the powerplay.

De Leede initially played a supporting role before shifting gears after settling in. He added a decisive 70-run third-wicket partnership with Ackermann, hammering seven boundaries, including three sixes. His commanding innings ensured the chase never drifted off course.

Levitt eventually fell after an explosive start, but by then the damage had been done. De Leede carried the Netherlands home in style, capping a dominant performance with both bat and ball as they cruised to victory with ease.
