Oman make two changes and field; Little comes in for Ireland

Oman won the toss and opted to field against Ireland in their Group B clash at the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo on Saturday.

Captain Jatinder Singh made the correct call at the toss as Oman, still searching for their first win of the tournament, looked to put Ireland under early pressure.

Oman made two changes to their XI. Middle-order batter Ashish Odedara replaced Wasim Ali, who had managed scores of 3 (8) and 27 (20) in the team’s opening two matches. Left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed also came into the side in place of Jay Odedra, who returned figures of 1 for 14 from a solitary over against Sri Lanka in their previous outing.

Ireland, too, were forced into changes. The major setback came with captain Paul Stirling ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a knee-ligament injury. Wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker has taken over the captaincy in his absence.

Tim Tector slotted into the XI for his sixth T20I appearance, while experienced left-arm seamer Josh Little replaced middle-order batter Ben Calitz as Ireland adjusted their balance. Uncapped batter Sam Topping has been named as Stirling’s replacement in the squad but is yet to make his international debut.

Both sides enter the contest winless after two matches. Oman are coming off a heavy defeat to Sri Lanka at the same venue on Thursday, while Ireland were comprehensively beaten by Australia at the R Premadasa Stadium earlier in the week.
