Board of Control for Cricket in India Announces Structured Support for Cricket Association for the Blind in India Teams
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled a comprehensive support framework for the men’s and women’s teams of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), pledging enhanced international exposure, home series assistance and access to premier cricket venues across the country.
The initiative is designed to strengthen infrastructure, expand competitive opportunities and provide sustained backing to India’s visually impaired cricketers, who have enjoyed significant success on the global stage.
India’s men’s blind cricket team has claimed multiple world championship titles over the years, establishing itself as a dominant force internationally. The women’s team added to that legacy by winning the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind in 2025, marking a historic milestone for the sport.
Key Features of the Support Framework
Under the new arrangement, the BCCI will:
-
Fund international travel for two overseas tournaments annually for both the men’s and women’s teams
-
Provide accommodation for home and visiting teams during bilateral series hosted in India
-
Offer access to BCCI-affiliated stadiums and grounds for domestic and international matches
BCCI president Mithun Manhas described the move as a significant step toward inclusive growth in Indian cricket.
“The achievements of India’s visually impaired cricketers are a source of immense pride for the cricketing fraternity,” Manhas said. “Through this support framework, the BCCI aims to strengthen opportunities, infrastructure and exposure for these athletes.
“Inclusive growth remains central to our vision for the game. We hope this support will further empower the teams to pursue excellence with confidence and inspire many more to take up the sport. The BCCI remains committed to playing its part in ensuring that cricket continues to be a game for all.”
The BCCI added that it looks forward to working closely with CABI to implement the initiatives and expand opportunities for visually impaired cricketers across India, reinforcing its broader commitment to accessibility and inclusion within the sport.
