Jordan Cox seals 3-0 sweep for England Lions in Abu Dhabi
Captain Jordan Cox produced a blistering innings of 75 from just 37 balls to guide England Lions to a two-wicket victory over Pakistan Shaheens, sealing a 3-0 T20 series whitewash in Abu Dhabi.
Chasing 163 for victory, the Lions were given early impetus despite losing Will Smeed in the opening exchanges. Cox arrived at the crease and immediately seized control of the contest, launching four of his first 11 deliveries over the boundary. The Essex batter accelerated rapidly, taking 20 runs from the fourth over bowled by Shahzaib Khan, and brought up a rapid half-century as he dominated the Shaheens’ attack.
By the time Saad Masood had Cox caught by Hasan Nawaz, the Lions were firmly on course, requiring just 32 runs from 29 balls. Dan Mousley added a composed 28 from 23 deliveries to steady the chase before Mitch Stanley sealed victory with three balls remaining, scrambling through for a single after a misfield.
Earlier, Pakistan Shaheens posted 162 for 6, but England’s bowlers ensured the total remained within reach. Scott Currie was the standout performer with figures of 3 for 27, striking twice in the 13th over to shift momentum decisively in the Lions’ favour. James Coles maintained his impressive form, dismissing Nawaz in the following over and finishing with 2 for 28.
The comprehensive victory completes a dominant T20 series for the Lions, who now turn their attention to a five-match 50-over series against Pakistan Shaheens, set to begin in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
