Reyneke Earns Maiden ODI Call-Up for New Zealand Tour

The South Africa women's national cricket team have named a 15-player squad for next month’s white-ball tour of New Zealand, with 20-year-old allrounder Kayla Reyneke earning her maiden ODI call-up.

Reyneke impressed during her recent T20I debut against Pakistan, claiming 2 for 13 in four overs before striking an unbeaten 29 off 16 balls to steer South Africa to victory in the opening match, where she was named Player of the Match. Her performances have now been rewarded with a place in the ODI squad for the upcoming series, which forms part of the ICC Women's Championship.

Captain Laura Wolvaardt will lead the side on the nearly three-week tour that features five T20Is and three ODIs across multiple venues in New Zealand.

Allrounder Marizanne Kapp will miss the tour as she continues her rehabilitation after falling ill during the recent Pakistan series. She is currently following a return-to-play protocol ahead of South Africa’s future assignments.

There is a welcome return to the ODI setup for experienced bowlers Ayabonga Khaka and Masabata Klaas, as well as allrounder Dané van Niekerk, who all missed the Pakistan ODIs.

Head coach Mandla Mashimbyi said touring New Zealand presents unique challenges due to varying conditions and venues, but added that the series offers a valuable opportunity to test combinations and build squad depth.

Selector convenor Clinton du Preez described Reyneke’s call-up as well deserved, praising her composure and skill at international level while highlighting the experience Khaka and Klaas bring back to the ODI bowling attack.

The T20I series will run from March 15 to 25 as double-headers alongside the men’s matches, followed by three ODIs on March 29, April 1 and April 4.
