Sri Lanka national cricket team Opt to Bowl; Pakistan national cricket team Ring in Changes for Crucial Clash

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bowl first against Pakistan in a high-stakes encounter in Pallekele. While Sri Lanka are already out of contention for a semi-final berth, Pakistan remain in the hunt and must secure victory by a margin of approximately 64 runs to advance.

Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha admitted he would have preferred to bowl first as well but emphasized the need for a complete performance after being put in to bat.

“We would have bowled first definitely. There's no way we can do that while batting first. But now we need to put up a good total and restrict them,” Salman said. “It's a massive opportunity. We just need to play a perfect game. We have to bat well, bowl well and field well.”

Pakistan made three changes to their playing XI, leaving out Babar Azam, Saim Ayub, and Salman Mirza. They brought in Khawaja Nafay, Naseem Shah, and Abrar Ahmed in a bid to strengthen their bowling attack and balance the side.

Shanaka said conditions influenced his decision at the toss, noting the likelihood of dew later in the evening.

“It’s a good pitch and there could be dew later on. We need to do our basics right. We didn't do that in the last two games but we need to make it right here,” Shanaka said.

Sri Lanka made two changes, with Kamil Mishara replacing the injured Kusal Mendis, while Janith Liyanage came in for Dushan Hemantha.

Teams:

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara (wk), Charith Asalanka, Pavan Rathnayake, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka (capt), Janith Liyanage, Dunith Wellalage, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana, Dilshan Madushanka.

Pakistan: Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, Salman Agha (capt), Khawaja Nafay, Usman Khan (wk), Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed, Usman Tariq.

With Pakistan’s semi-final hopes hanging in the balance, all eyes will be on whether they can deliver the dominant performance required to keep their campaign alive.
