Nensi Patel and Jess Kerr lead New Zealand to series sweep over Zimbabwe

New Zealand completed a dominant Twenty20 International series sweep over Zimbabwe with a crushing ten-wicket victory in the third and final match in Hamilton on Sunday.

Led by impressive spells from Jess Kerr and Nensi Patel, the hosts bundled Zimbabwe out for a modest 64 for 9 before racing to the target in just 5.4 overs without losing a wicket.

After Zimbabwe opted to bat first, Kerr struck early to set the tone. She removed Kelis Ndhlovu in the third over, and Modester Mupachikwa was run out off the very next delivery, leaving the visitors reeling at 3 for 2. Patel soon joined the act, dismissing Beloved Biza in the following over. By the end of the seventh over, Zimbabwe were in deep trouble at 10 for 6, with both Kerr and Patel claiming two wickets each at that stage.

Zimbabwe’s innings saw brief resistance from Adel Zimunu and Audrey Mazvishaya. The pair added 42 runs in 52 balls for the eighth wicket, each contributing 20 runs, with Mazvishaya remaining unbeaten. Their stand ensured Zimbabwe batted out the full 20 overs, though they were unable to post a competitive total.

Patel finished with outstanding figures of 3 for 8, while Kerr returned 2 for 6. Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green chipped in with a wicket apiece. Rosemary Mair was economical despite going wicketless, conceding just three runs in her three overs. Kayley Knight was the most expensive of the New Zealand bowlers, conceding at 5.33 runs per over across her three overs.

Chasing 65, New Zealand made light work of the target. Isabella Gaze, coming off unbeaten knocks of 66 and 85 in the earlier matches, remained not out on 38 from 20 balls. Izzy Sharp supported her with an unbeaten 18 from 14 deliveries as the hosts wrapped up the chase comfortably inside six overs.

With the T20I series sealed 3-0, the teams will now turn their attention to a three-match One-Day International series, scheduled for March 5, 8 and 11 in Dunedin.
